Lockon had intentionally kept his schedule clear because he was on standby. When he received the alert, he ran down to the hangar, donned his flight suit, and prepped Gundam Zabanya for launch.

"Lockon Stratos, Gundam Zabanya, ready to launch!"

The mech slices through the rock wall, delaying Ed's smooshed fate, if only for a moment. In the distance, a line of tanks can be seen advancing, along with some ground troops in army uniforms.

"FLARE!"

The air among the line of advancing soldiers contracts to a point and ignites, dealing an explosion of flash-heat that leaves the air smelling of smoke and oxidized char. Lucca heads for the smoke, swinging the butt of her laser rifle at one soldier, firing it at another at close range, flashing fire at a third to combust his equipment...

She's not going to hold back this time. They weren't going to get this gate without one HELL of a fight.

The explosion gave Edward the distraction he needed to escape the sight of the silver mech. He simply did not have the power needed to fight something like that. Fortunately, the portal was turning on, so someone most have heard his message. He ran off to a pile of rubble from his wall (His beautiful wall!), and from a position a bit out of sight, sent a shockwave of stone pillars through the ground to flip the tanks before they could get any closer. "I thought we were dealing with rioters, not the freakin' army!"

Katina took a quick count of the enemy forces as she burst out, heading in first. Tanks and infantry - it looked like Ed and Lucca actually had those under control, but she only glanced at the enemy mechs before backing them up with a quick beam rifle sweep of the tank forces.

With that done, she didn't even watch out for a counterattack before boosting skyward and looking for larger prey. "Alright! Now for the real fight!"

Gundam Zabanya was next. It emerged, two GN Rifle Bits in pistol form drawn, one in each hand. Immediately it rocketed into the sky and began raining particle beams on the enemy mecha.

Soldiers scream in pain as the flare explodes on them, and several of the tanks are flipped with a loud crash.

The blade-mech and the rifle-mech split off under the assault, the blade-mech skimming the ground before dashing directly at Zabanya under its particle beam spray, slicing at its cockpit.

The rifle-mech swings away from the particle beams and beam rifle before returning fire, focusing down Katina's Gespenst.

Edward takes advantage of the enemy robots being distacted to start bringing his wall back up before any MORE enemies could get into the fort.

Lucca bashes away another soldier, and once she realizes what Edward is doing she makes her way towards him to keep his back while he rebuilds.

The sound of blaster fire bombs and girlish kiais probably aren't the easiest to concentrate through, but at least it's better than the Enforcer getting attacked.

"Oi oi! If you wanna go down that badly just ask!" The Gespenst rushes up at the sniper mech, juking around beams and keeping damage to a minimum for now. With so many weapons at her disposal that she could fire right now, Katina settles on an old favorite, swapping to a shotgun and filling the sky with metal pellets.

"Too slow!"

Lockon kicked the thrust into gear, and Zabanya shot straight up over the attack. It then pointed itself downward, keeping the bladed mech in its sights.

"Give me some assistance, boys!"

All of the holsters on Zabanya's sides and shoulders opened up and twelve more rifle bits came into play. They began to zip around as Lockon resumed his fire, not trying to hit so much as trying to box the mech in.

Lucca's attacks keep the soldiers at bay as the wall rises, keeping them out of the way.

As Katina closes with the mech she hears a loud bang as moments later a plane comes streaking towards her Gespenst on a collision course, unloading a salvo of missiles.

The missiles, however, fly around her and fly towards Zabanya as the silver blade-mech starts slicing through the bits as it tries to escape Zabanya's curtain of fire.

There's a few seconds' lull where the rest of the soldiers either hadn't made it to their position or were busy contemplating the more creative meanings to the term "flame retardant." In any case, it's enough time for Lucca to finally cast a Protect spell on Edward, then herself.

"I dunno how much more magic I've got in me!" She reports over her shoulder. She KNEW she should have kept up with her training. So much for that now.

"Once I get the wall up, that shouldn't matter." The wall continued to crawl upwards at what felt like a snail's pace, but it was high enough at least that tanks couldn't just drive in anymore.

"Man what the hell was I thinking pitting the two of us against a goddamn army!?"

"Simple!" She calls back, sending another fireball into the advancing crowd with obvious recoil in her shoulders from the force. "You wanted to make sure we actually had a challenge for once!"

"Planes? Are you kidding me?" She whips her machine around, firing a flurry of shotgun blasts at both the plane and its missiles, moving to hopefully throw off the sniper's fire while relying on her armor to hold up to any damage from her new, temporary opponent.

"It'll take more than that!" The eight remaining rifle bits pulled back to Zabanya. Within the cockpit, a holographic targeting display lit up, as it acquired target locks on the missiles, the fighter, and all exposed weapons and limbs of the two enemy mecha. At the same time, Lockon replaced the two rifle bits he'd been using in pistol mode and pulled them out in rifle mode, and the holster bits deployed in assault mode, pairing up to unleash fire.

"Let's see you boys handle my firing WITHOUT targeting!"

On those words, particle beams rained down, seventeen at a time, on the intended targets.

As Ed's wall goes up, there's a moment of respite. Then the remaining tanks begin to bombard it from a distance, while the soldiers regroup, watching for weaknesses.

The Sniper and the blade mech pull back for a moment, avoiding Lockon's fire as he downs the missles.

The plane suddenly shifts in midair, transforming into a mech and taking the shotgun blast right to the chasis as it launches itself at Katina. The shells do some damage, but it latches on to Katina and begins to radiate silver energy, electrifying Katina's mech.

Meanwhile, as Lockon's shots cause the missiles to explode, the Blade mech suddenly leaps forward, coming directly through the pre-exploded missiles and launching itself at Zabanya while the Sniper mech above lays down covering fire behind Zabanya to bar its escape.

The strain of holding the wall together against this kind of firepower is enormous, but Edward is holding it up for the moment, at least.

"Lucca! Blind them!"

"--Got it!"

Mind reeling at how exactly she was going to DO that, she starts moving immediately towards the supply stocks on the near side of the wall. Blind them, blind them... Grab a solid-light battery from one of the tables, cut the wiring, reverse the poles... Attach the trigger from one of her bombs as a fuse...

"Incoming! Don't look directly at the flash!" She yells with no prologue into her communicator, then grabs the flash bomb and hurls it to the top of the wall.

Katina lets out a shout through grit teeth, the shock throwing her back against her seat for a moment before she she could work the controls. Hopefully the controls still work, as she drops her shotgun, wrenches the Gespenst's arms back to slam them down on top of the transforming mech.

Oh, this? Lockon would be concerned if he weren't in a similar situation before.

Zabanya and all its bits glowed red. With triple the speed they possessed before, the holster bits began taking shield formations to block the sniper mech's shots, and Zabanya itself zipped around the sword mech, pointed both rifles at its back, and opened fire repeatedly at almost point blank.

The flash grenade temporarily stuns the advancing forces, the bombardment ceases.
